My childhood memories of traveling have always been the big summer break travel to Kerala, Southern part of India - more commonly referred to as God's Own Country. I assume the backwaters, wide open fields and distinct greenery fetched her the name. I always thought of Kerala being feminine- wonder why. Then, as I grew older, I was 'allowed' to go for study trips organized by my University. That is when I got familiar with the northern part of India. And then I traveled for work. Somehow, I feel I never really traveled- travel for me is when I play a part in planning and organizing a trip, exploring places I really wish to, watching locals immersed in their culture, doing things that fascinate me and just not be one among the many tourists walking alongside a guide.
I have been unfortunate to not have traveled most parts of India- one the most diverse countries with a significant culture, language and landscape difference. Blame me or my schedule or sheer laziness.
My travel trait, I assume, acquired dominance at a later stage- when I got married and moved to US. This was one of the most prominent move I had. Important because I started a new life and yes, the independence of being the mature decision maker.
This was one of my very first click in the Land Beyond. It snowed heavily, my very first experience of being in the snow, feeling the wispy snowflakes, the one that made me feel like reading a childhood fairytale.
Yes, this picture marked the beginning of many more experiences and sights that awaited me!
More to come!
